Sasja Beslik receives Sustainability Leader award

Nordea’s Sasja Beslik received an award for Sustainability Leader of the Year 2017 for finance. This further positions Nordea, the largest bank in the Nordic region and one of the largest in Europe, as a leader in sustainable finance in Europe.

The New Economy Awards showcase the brightest minds in business, looking at firms and individuals who pose big questions and answer with big ideas. Sasja Beslik, Head of Group Sustainable Finance at Nordea, is one of Sweden’s foremost experts on finance and sustainability with more than 20 years of experience working with multinational companies on investment issues.

According to The New Economy (TNE), part of the World News Media Group, Sasja Beslik is a key stakeholder within the financial sector who can demonstrate best practice and his impact on the industry.

Explaining its motivation for the award, TNE said: “Unfortunately, the financial sector hasn’t been doing a very good job within their scope as they lurch from one major financial crisis to another. Mistaking financial institutions’ green gestures for a true commitment to sustainability will be catastrophic. Sasja is the leader who has the ability and influence to change the irresponsible practices being developed.”

Banks must build bridges

In an interview with TNE’s Paul Richardson, filmed at London Stock Exchange Studios, Sasja Beslik said the future for sustainable development is to find a way to fully utilise the potential of the market economy for the “forces of good”, and the financial sector and banks play a crucial role in reaching sustainable development goals.

– The role of the banks is to support society and build bridges to the future, Sasja said in the interview, which you can watch above.
